Healing
Yay, a new tattoo!
Wait, not so fast. The final result is a 50/50 effort between the tattoo placement and the aftercare.
It's up to you now.
First 24 hours
-
Keep the foil on for 12-24 hours (if applied).
-
Remove the foil of slowly in the shower.
-
Clean your tattoo with water and PH neutral soap. Don't be affraid, but be gently.
-
Let it dry in open air or pat with a clean (paper) towel.
-
Apply cream to keep your skin moist (cicaplast, homeoplasmine, bepanthol or other advised by your tattoo artist).
-
Your new tattoo will release moisture in the first days, this is part of the healing process.
-
Avoid drinking alcohol (alcohol dilutes your blood, making the healing more difficult).
First 3 days
-
Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo.
-
Wash and moisture the tattoo 3 to 6 times a day (following the same process as on the first day).
-
After a few days your tattoo will get dryer, itchy and loose skin. Do not peel or scratch, let it fall off naturally. New skin will replace the old one soon, faded ink will return.
First 4 weeks
-
Clean your tattoo daily.
-
Keep your skin moist, it should not become dry and form a crust. Apply cream 3 to 6 times a day, more if your skin feels dry. Only use the advised creams.
-
Cover up if you are exposed to dirt (e.g. during your job), leave it open otherwise.
-
Avoid swimming, sunbading, sauna, jacuzzi,...
-
Avoid heavy exercicing in the first 2 weeks (and clean the tattoo straight after if you did sweat).
-
Get in touch if your skin becomes more swollen, red or painfull after the first day.
-
After 4 weeks, your tattoo will be healed completely!
The rest of your life
-
Always apply sunscreen (factor 50) when your tattoo is exposed to the sun (the sun is one of the main causes of tattoo fading).
-
Apply cream whenever yu feel like it or when your skin feels dry.
-
Enjoy!
